From late August to early September, Kunshan delegation paid a goodwill visit to San Sebastian, Spain at the invitation of the city Mayor Eneko Goia Laso, and the two sides established a friendly-exchange relationship. By now, Kunshan has expanded its international friends circle to 15 members, including 5 sister cities and 10 cities with friendly-exchange relations.
San Sebastian is a coastal city located in Basque Country, Spain. Introduced by Mondragon Corporation, a Spain company investing in Kunshan, the city has closely interacted with Kunshan through e-mail in the past year. Looking ahead, the two cities will pursue exchanges and cooperation on operas, football and other projects. Considering that San Sebastian holds Quincena Music Festival and Jazz Festival each year, and Kunshan has held Chinese Opera Gala (Kunshan) for two consecutive years, the performance troupes from both sides will further discuss the exchanges of art performance. The two cities will also promote the cooperation on football projects, for San Sebastian boasts a La Liga football club Real Sociedad and Kunshan FC, a football club in Kunshan, is witnessing a good momentum of development.
With efforts to strengthen the sister city construction in recent years, a worldwide and multi-level sister city network has been formed. So far, Kunshan has 5 sister cities approved by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, namely South El Monte of the US, Grootfontein of Namibia, Tatebayashi of Japan, Hyvinkää of Finland and Penrith of Australia. Kunshan has also established friendly-exchange relations with 10 cities, which are Tahara of Japan, Gunsan and Jeju of South Korea, Ballarat of Australia, Palmerston North of New Zealand, Viareggio of Italy, Ouro Preto (Black Gold) of Brazil, Durham of the US, Dire Dawa of Ethiopia and San Sebastian of Spain.
